Understanding Beneficial Ownership: Definitions and Requirements for Compliance
Beneficial owners are individuals who either own 25% or more of a company or exercise significant control over it, such as an executive officer, directors, or senior managers. Rules for beneficial owners vary by country and company structure. Beneficial owners can include one or both of the following:
- Individuals who own 25% or more of the company, and/or
- Individuals considered to “exercise significant control” over your company, responsible for managing and directing the business. These roles may include: CEO, CFO, COO, Managing Director, General Partner, President, Vice President, or Treasurer.
